Ravenswood Rehab
Not every project requires starting from scratch! For this Ravenswood home, the Kemora design team employed some creative re-use techniques and were able to work with the homeowner’s existing concrete planters and just give them a face lift! Wood timbers were used to cover and modernize the look of the concrete planter boxes and new stone was used to cover the concrete stairs and match with the stone veneer cladding the front porch.
Main Objectives
- New homeowners wanted to keep the structure of the existing concrete beds, but update the look to match their newly renovated home’s modern façade
- Create unique front foundation planting with raised planted areas at multiple levels and sizes
Solutions
- Cladding the planters with horizontal cedar continues the horizontal nature of the materials on front of the home
- Raised planters help avoid damage to the plants from neighborhood pets
- Planters at multiple levels allowed the homeowner to add a variety of different plants to complement the variety of heights
- Cladding the planters with wood created a softer, more natural feel than concrete
testimonial
“We did a gut rehab and they are one of our top contractors. They are prompt. They have good taste. They charge very reasonable prices. And they are incredibly responsive. Marisa’s team worked with us to redesign the yard and get it done as fast as possible so we could make the best of our summer. I only wish they did more than just landscaping!”
